About 7 Letter Words

A fast, free word-reference tool that helps players find and understand every valid seven-letter word for Scrabble, Words With Friends, and other letter games.

7 Letter Words is an independent word-finding tool built for people who love letter games. Whether you are staring at a rack of seven tiles in Scrabble, hunting for a bingo in Words With Friends, or working through a tough crossword clue, our goal is simple: help you find the right seven-letter word in seconds, and understand why it works.

What this site does

At its core, 7 Letter Words is a search engine for seven-letter words. You can type the tiles you are holding and let the finder unscramble every valid word they can make, or browse ready-made lists of seven-letter words that start with a letter, end with a letter, or contain a specific letter. Every result is ranked by its Scrabble score, so the highest-value plays are always easy to spot.

Beyond the raw lists, each page explains the words it shows — how many use high-value tiles like J, Q, X and Z, which words are legal in different dictionaries, and where the biggest scoring opportunities are. Our guides section goes further, with strategy articles on bingos, tile management, and the differences between the major word games.

Where our word lists come from

Accuracy matters in word games, so every word on this site is checked against established tournament word lists rather than being generated at random. We work from three recognised dictionaries:

  • Collins Scrabble Words — the international list used for Scrabble play outside North America, and the primary list behind our pages.
  • NWL / TWL (Scrabble US) — the official tournament list for North America.
  • Words With Friends — the separate dictionary used by the popular mobile game.

Because these lists differ, a word that is valid in one game is not always valid in another. That is why the finder lets you choose a dictionary before you search, and why many of our pages tell you how many words are also legal in Words With Friends and in the North American list.

How scoring works here

Words are scored using standard Scrabble letter values, where common letters like E, A and R are worth a single point and rare letters like Q and Z are worth ten. Playing all seven of your tiles in one turn — a “bingo” — earns a 50-point bonus in Scrabble and 35 points in Words With Friends, which is exactly why seven-letter words are so valuable and why this site focuses on them.

Who it is for

Our visitors range from casual players settling a game-night disagreement to competitive players studying word lists between tournaments, as well as crossword solvers, teachers, and anyone who simply enjoys words. The tool is free to use, works in any modern browser, and requires no account or download.
